Laguna Beach High School wrestlers Xavier Brooks and Alek Ramirez both qualified for the 2026 CIF Southern Section Masters Meet, marking the first time in program history that two Breakers have advanced to Masters in the same season.

The milestone comes in season one under head coach Barron Zepeda and assistant coach Bobby Impson, who have guided Laguna Beach Wrestling through one of California’s deepest season structures and helped elevate the program to new heights.

Widely considered one of the toughest state qualifiers in the country, the Wrestling Masters Meet brings together only the top finishers from each CIF divisional championship, placing Brooks and Ramirez among Southern California’s elite competitors. Brooks arrives at Masters as a sectional champion, while Ramirez enters battle-tested after successfully navigating one of CIFs most demanding paths to placement.

Brooks and Ramirez's postseason progression has moved from League Champions to CIF Southern Section Championship placers, followed by Wrestling Masters Meet, and ultimately the CIF State Wrestling Championships, the final stage of the high school wrestling season.

Held Friday, February 20, 2026, at Sonora High School in La Habra, the 2026 Masters Meet began at 9:00 a.m. and served as the final qualifying tournament for the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield. The top five finishers in each weight class earned advancement to the state tournament, one of the most competitive high school wrestling events in the nation.
