Laguna’s Mid Dual Push Falls Short at Irvine
LBHS Wrestling squared off against Irvine High School in an away dual on Wednesday, 12/3/25

Mikulin and Ramirez Swing Momentum with Back-to-Back Victories
Laguna Beach Breakers battled back after an early deficit against host Irvine High School, sparked by strong performances from returning wrestlers. The Vaqueros opened the varsity boys meet with wins at 106 pounds and 113 pounds, but Senior Mason Mikulin and Junior Alek Ramirez answered with back-to-back pins at 120 pounds and 126 pounds to pull the Breakers back into contention. Despite a few tough losses from key competitors, Laguna Beach kept the dual within reach and refused to let the early gap deter their competitive push.

Breakers End Dual with Impressive Late Surge
Irvine responded with another run of wins through the middle weights, widening the margin before sophomore Kishore Stock at 157 pounds halted the streak with a stellar, explosive pin. Junior Coby Busick at 165 pounds followed with a tech fall to keep Laguna's momentum. With Irvine lacking a 215-pound wrestler, LBHS newcomer Junior Xavier Brooks moved up to heavyweight to secure the final points for Laguna Beach. Despite facing a 70-pound weight difference, Brooks closed the meet with a sensational pin in his LBHS debut victory, and an energizing moment for Breakers Wrestling.

Despite a strong late surge that showcased the Breakers’ depth, skill, and determination, Laguna fell 47 to 29 to Irvine. With a full varsity lineup including the 175- and 190-pound classes, the dual would have been even closer, highlighting the team’s exciting potential and the program’s continued growth alongside its record-high enrollment.

Breaker Junior Sasha Welshe Delivers Standout Victory
Junior Sasha Welshe (115 lbs), Laguna Beach’s sole female wrestler, delivered an impressive win by pin.

This season marks the team’s highest enrollment to date, featuring a 22-athlete roster, a growth of more than 50 percent from last year, and a clear sign of the program’s competitive trajectory under new head coach Barron Zepeda.
